Its child labour, indeed. But isnt it a form of forwarding traditional knowledge to the next generation as well?
this picture shows the old mahout at Manas Nationalpark. He is so knowledgable about the animals and has so many stories to tell. But who listens? Perhaps a small boy, who ever dreamt of working with animals? And one day becomes a great conservationist? Let him work with the elephants in the afternoon after having finished his classes. And increase not only his formal knowledge.
